Hot and ColdThe warmth of sunrise over Llyn Tryweryn belies the bitter conditions and the -16C recorded on the car thermometer when I started the walk. |

ThawAs this cold spell lost its grasp, rivers again start to flow leaving patterns in ice, here on the small stream close to Tryfan. |
Standing OutI first photographed these trees in these conditions on Fuji Velvia with my Canon T90 approximately 10 years ago, didn't quite get it right, and had burnt out areas where the sun shone brightest on the frost and ice. So I was delighted to see the conditions repeated, although the trees are a little larger, and the histogram proved its worth. |

FrostedLlyn Dinas on a bitterly cold morning, grasses and trees covered in frost and a snow covering on the distant Moel Habog. The National Trust currently have a campaign to buy the Dinas estate and save it from commercial development. |
Snow and CloudI was originally drawn to this scene by the strong light, but as the cloud built, I became more interested in the patterns of snow on the dark frozen waters of Llyn Dinas resembling the cloud formation above. |

IcedMany of the streams had ice clinging to their edges, this particular lump caught my eye because of the light shining through it. Cwm Pennant. |
Winter PreparationWith the forecast suggesting another cold winter, preparations begin early this year and the fishing boats are removed from Llyn-y-Dywarchen before being trapped in the ice. |

Autumnal LightIn high wind the landscape changes constantly with the fleeting light in this view of Snowdon and Crib Goch from above Nant Gwynant. |
Forever AutumnThe Hawthorn trees are swathed in berries, bracken has taken on a rich golden tone, Cwm Pennant is a patchwork of light. Autumn at its best. |

Spirit of SnowdonOccasionally the elements combine just as it it hoped they will on the walk to a location. This is one of those moments, as in a wonderfully calm and peaceful setting on the shores of Llyn Llydaw, the rising sun bathes Snowdon in an almost luminous red, and the scene is completed by the reflection. Even the memory of it sends a shiver down the spine. |
Sunlit MistsTwo things caught my eye on this morning. The swirling mists over the south and western shores of Llyn Gwynant and the colour of grasses. With very little light, it was a bonus when the sun lifted the scene for even the briefest moment. |

CopperWith the low water level in Llyn Llydaw, I found the rocks to use as foreground. The combination of colours in the rock, the hillside brought about by the rising sun, and the remains of the crushing mill from the copper mine made naming this image simple. |

Light and ShadeSunlight in Cwm Pennant brightens the grasses and emphasises the looming shadow on the Nantlle ridge. |
