Spring Awakening

The land awakens to Spring, and the day closes over Llyn Nantlle with cloud decending over the Nantlle ridge collecting warmth from the setting sun.

High up on the flanks of Cwm Teigl sits this pool in the centre of marshland, which I managed to find a way through to, drawn by the colour of the surrounding grasses, highlighted here by a glimmer of sunlight. Carreg Y Frân sits dark and threatening in the background.

Living Thatch

The weight of the branches from this tree have eventually forced the rotting roof timbers in this derelict cottage to give way.

Snow Shower, Llyn Dulyn

Snow Shower, Llyn Dulyn

From a sheltered spot a long exposure masks the effect of the howling winds, the sun illuminates the hillside and snow tries to hide the view as they throw themselves into Cwm Dulyn simulataneously.

Fading Light

Fading Light

From the disused Foel-Gron Quarry, I had set out with high hopes of catching a snowy sunset, but as the snow showers closed in once more, the realisation that my son, (who, in his deluded and cold state, believes that snow should only be photographed when the sun is shining), would soon run out of patience, dawned.

Dulyn Rock

Despite the gale force winds, the blue waters of Llyn Cwm Dulyn look beautiful against the backdrop of Garnedd Goch and Craig Cwm Dulyn.

Above the Mists

Above the Mists

With a sea mist pulsing inland, Criccieth castle stands tall.

Sugar Coated

With snow covering Tryfan and lying in patches on the frozen surface of Llyn Bochlyd like sprinkled icing sugar, the blue sky and strong sunlight belie the freezing conditions which were much more evident once the cloud decended.

Gribin View

Gribin View

Cloud starts to form on the Glyder and here the summit of Y Garn is hidden from sight and shortly after the entire scene was lost, but not before I had chance to savour the view from the top of the Gribin Facet over Llyn Idwal and down the length of Nant Francon.

Cool Blue

Cloud forming on the Glyder masks the sun from view but the ice on Llyn Bochlyd still reflects the weakened light.

Ice Blue

Despite, or maybe because of the conditions, the ice on Llyn Cau has a cool blue tone. A touch of brightness lifts Craig Cau temporarily from the gloom, although the cloud remained over Cadair Idris for the day.
